Description
Rated 97/100 points in Decanter magazine’s Top 10 Australian wines of 2022.
My notes: The corset on this wine was drawn in nice and tight with the buxom fruit bursting out at the seams, very dark fruit it is too with notes of blackberry jam, plums and tar, oak and smoke, while the palate is utterly eurocentric, highly strung with very firm and fine tannins, and juicy acidity. Demands food for this very cool climate style. 14.2%. Screw cap. Drink now to 2033+
“Michael Hall will challenge any preconceptions of Barossa Shiraz with this understated, elegant beauty. Sourced from the elevated granite belt in Flaxman’s Valley (part of the Barossa subregion of Eden Valley), this fruit speaks deliberately in a soft voice. The pretty perfume owes thanks to 20% whole bunch berries in the ferment, although no aspect of this Shiraz is exaggerated. Indeed, the blackberry, redcurrant and mocha flavours are soft and lean, melding in silky, seamless weave, with 20 months’ maturation in mostly old French oak.” David Sly, Decanter Magazine.
